Van-Far Alumni and Friends Association
Engraved Brick Walkway
The Van-Far R-1 School Board gave approval at their regularly scheduled board meeting
Thursday night, April 16 to an engraved brick walkway. Sponsored by the newly formed
Van-Far Alumni and Friends Association, an outgrowth of the 50th. anniversary
celebration of the Jr./Sr. High School building, the engraved brick walkway will renovate
the flagpole area at the front entrance of Van-Far R-1 High School. Designed by
contractor, Jim Deppe of Vandalia, the circular area will have 4 engraved walkways
leading to the centered flagpole. Each of the 4 walkways will be completed in stages as
the sale of the engraved bricks merits. The alumni association committee hopes to sell
170 engraved bricks for the first walkway by July 1, 2009. The 4-inch by 8-inch bricks
allow 3 lines of 18 characters of engraving per line and sells for $50.00. Also available
will be 8-inch by 8-inch bricks with 6 lines of 18 characters engraving at a cost of $75.00
each. The engraving process is guaranteed for the life of the brick, and the engraving is
intended to honor graduates, individual accomplishments, and memorials. The walkway
area will also feature 4 quadrangles each with a small landscaping area and bench. Orders
for the engraved bricks are being taken via an order form with payment by check to the
Van-Far Alumni and Friends Association in care of the Van-Far R-1 High School. For
